SB 998 - The Water Shutoff Protection Act
Protecting customers through fair billing and service continuation policies.
Understanding SB 998
SB 998, also known as the Water Shut-Off Protection Act, ensures that low-income residential customers have additional time to pay their water bills and benefit from reduced reconnection fees. Effective since February 1, 2020, this law helps protect customers from water service interruptions due to non-payment. Burbank Water and Power (BWP) follows these guidelines in accordance with the City’s Municipal Code and state regulations.
