Prior to installation, your contractor is responsible for testing your system to ensure that you are eligible for the AC Replace Before It Breaks Rebate Program prior to installation. They will handle the assessment of your system, installation, and coordinate your rebate application for you.

The key requirements are:
a) It is a central AC or heat pump in operating condition.
b) It has an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 9 or less. Once again, the contractor will determine this for you as part of the process.

Yes, it must meet the key requirements listed above. Your contractor will help you determine if your heat pump meets the program requirements.

If you don’t know your AC’s EER rating, don’t worry. The contractors approved to work in the rebate program will test your system and determine the eligibility of your AC unit for the rebate program.

BWP has selected Proctor Engineering Group to administer the AC Replace Before It Breaks Program. Proctor Engineering Group has extensive experience consulting on and administering energy efficiency programs for the California Energy Commission and utilities throughout the country.

Proctor Engineering Group works to ensure that approved participating contractors meet the quality standards for service and installation, provides specialized training and will verify all necessary conformance with rebate requirements.

Yes, we want qualified contractors to apply to the AC Replace Before It Breaks Rebate Program. Please share the Participating Contractor List with your preferred contractor so that they can request more information on program training and certification.

You can expect to receive your rebate check for the AC Replace Before It Breaks Rebate Program from the contractor in approximately 2-4 weeks after your permit has been finaled by the Building and Safety Division.

Yes. All AC system installations must follow and obtain Burbank Building and Safety Division’s inspection and permitting process.

Obtaining a permit helps to ensure that the location, wiring, and installation of your HVAC system is safe.

After the installation is complete, your contractor may require access to the inside of your home to verify the performance of the system. Only after this is done can your permit be finaled by Building and Safety Division.

Once your permit is finaled by the Building and Safety Division, your contractor will apply to Proctor Engineering Group for your rebate. 

You can expect to receive your rebate check approximately 2-4 weeks after your permit is finaled.
